New Delhi: Matki Phod League (MPL) Season 2, which gives the traditional Janmashtami Matki Phod celebration and the spirit of sports a modern, organised and competitive format, was held this year on an even grander scale. Organised at the Yamuna Sports Complex, Surajmal Vihar, New Delhi, the mega event brought together sports, culture, tradition and entertainment in a unique celebration.
Shri Jai Bhagwan Goyal, Founder of Matki Phod League and Senior BJP Leader, said that for the past 23 years, continuous efforts have been made to preserve and promote the cultural traditions of Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Matki Phod. These efforts have now evolved into a professional sporting platform. The League aims to give this traditional Indian sport a new identity while encouraging young people to connect with their culture and sports.
Shri Jai Bhagwan Goyal said that the objective of Matki Phod League is not merely to organise a competition, but to inspire the youth to participate in sports with the message “Khelenge Toh Khilenge”, while taking India’s traditional sports to the national and international stage.
Matki Phod League Season 2 witnessed the participation of 24 talented teams — 16 boys’ teams and 8 girls’ teams. Across 68 matches, the participants showcased remarkable courage, balance, teamwork, strategy and skill. The thrilling competition, in which participants formed human pyramids to reach and break the suspended Matki, emerged as one of the major attractions for the spectators. The first Matki of the season was broken in just 43 seconds.
Along with the sporting excitement, the event also witnessed a unique fusion of Bhajan Clubbing. Renowned singers Ashok Masti, Shankar Sahney, Shibani Kashyap and Dilbagh Singh enthralled the audience with their energetic performances, while Braj Ratna Vandana Shri added a devotional touch with a special performance celebrating Shri Krishna Bhakti and the vibrant culture of Braj.
